Summer musings of a work from home knitter

The Summer Musings of a Work-From-Home Knitter …

Oh, the entrepreneur life … I love how much freedom I have, but it also means I let my *own* work fall aside when I get busy with my day job, or with the family … or just with summer!

So that means blogging has fallen FAR behind. Which is OK. I’m going to be gentle with myself with this one. But I’m also going to try to do better! My new plan will be to post a new post every other Sunday. I don’t have a lot of knitting-related news at the moment, but we’ve been rocking family time 😉

As far as knitting? Well, my mitten pattern stubbornly refuses to write itself. I have a shawl idea that’s not *quite* materializing, and I just realized that this would be the perfect time to write up a Christmas pattern I created a couple years ago for Etsy (selling the Finished Objects) so I can sell the pattern!

There are always so many things to do, but I often have to remind myself that I do this work (and my part-time work for Aroha Knits) so that I am able to be here for the kids. We can head out to the beach when the mood strikes, and they can spend all day playing with the neighbour kids, too! (That’s when I might get a few minutes of work done). So my business will grow slowly, but it’s growing, and it’s bringing me joy.

I’m also working on being present in what I’m doing. I have a tendency to think about all the work/housework things I *should* be doing when I’m with the kids, and guilty about ignoring the kids when I’m working! My kids just took up Kung Fu, and the instructor often asks them

What time is it?” NOW! “Where are we?” HERE!

I think it’s a great example of focusing on what you’re doing at this moment. Now I just need to take some lessons from my 5- and 8-year olds 😉

happy knitting,
